The Fiddle Music of Newfoundland and Labrador

Home » Kelly Russell’s Collection » Danny MacDonald
Born in Doyle’s, Codroy Valley, on December 16, 1941, Danny learned to play the fiddle from his father. His brother Roddy played mandolin, and they both learned tunes from their father and his record collection of music from Scotland and Nova Scotia. Danny worked as a logger for most of his life.
Collector’s Note: Danny was at Leonard MacArthur’s house party and contributed a great selection of Scottish and Cape Breton jigs, reels, strathspeys, and marches. Earlier that day, I also had the opportunity to record Danny and Roddy together in quieter surroundings.
